Go Slow

It’s a go slow week this week. I just can’t seem to make myself do anything much. I potter and I wander and I potter a bit more and not much is accomplished. I’m pretty sure it has a lot to do with the HEAT…OH THE FREAKIN’ HEAT….I really don’t cope with summer very well, can you tell! I have two illustrations floating around in my head at the moment but their not quite ready to get onto the paper yet.

I have managed to pick (and eat) the rapidly ripening nectarines and plums in the backyard, yummy.

I also have been watching lots of rubbish TV while crocheting these granny squares for the Crochet a Rainbow Project over at Sarah London. The lovely Sarah has asked for donations of granny squares she says;

“I’d like to inject some sunshine and colour into the lives of those affected by the floods as they begin to re-build and start over.

I’m asking for donations of granny squares which I will then make up into blankets to be distributed to those affected throughout Queensland and Victoria, providing comfort and colour and as a reminder that there is always a rainbow after a storm.”

I’ve also shown Savannah how to crochet a square too.

So I guess I’ve done some things this week, but I just don’t know if I want to get all busy again just yet, it’s kinda nice just to go slow. Here’s to a slow weekend.

A Caravan of Dreams

Guess what? I am crushing on these caravans big time at the moment. They are just a whole bunch of cute quaintness don’t you think?
As it so happens I have a little caravan in my back yard circa 1969-70 and it has up until now been the “man cave” of my oldest boy. Now that he’s flown the nest I am hatching a plan to convert it into my sewing/drawing/crocheting/crafting retreat. Stay tuned for pics as I transform a bit of an ugly duckling into a swan…well, maybe a sparrow?

Oh and while I’m on favourite things at the moment this would have to be my ‘favouritist’ Etsy shop at the moment Sweet Bestiary. Unfortunately this lovely broach is sold so I will just have to admire from afar unless of course I could make one…

My Creative Space – I’m chuffed

Well this has never happened to me before, and I’m feeling the warm glow of appreciation! “What?” you ask. Well I was mooching around the shops the other day when I was asked by one of the young shop assistants at Cotton On where I go my bag to which I replied that I had made it. Bag material 002Wide eyed the girl then requested I make one for her. I was a little stunned but said OK but I would have to see if I could find same or similar fabric as I had made the bag 2 years ago.

Trip to spotlight and a look through sadly limited stock I came up with this combo which she likes so some sewing is in the pipeline.

Bag material 004

Luckily the main outer fabric was still there and not only that but in the chuck out bin for only 4 dollars a metre and it’s 140cm wide (WooHoo!). The lattice and flower print will be the lining and the material on the top here will be the pocket.

I really love this bag, it washes really well (and if you have kids you know how important that is) and I was able to make it to fit me (being of the larger variety) so I can wear it comfortably across my body messenger style. I want to make a red toned one next for myself, I must admit to a bit of a bag habit, oh well could be worse.

IF - Chicken

This is a bit of a departure from my normal style, but I have been having so much fun this past week designing and illustrating some vector characters for a poster project I am working on at work, that I thought I would continue in the same style for IF this week.

I love the theme this week as I really have a soft spot for chickens (of the feathered variety), they really are quite quirky critters and so comical.

Things have been a bit quiet around my blog at the moment there just seems to be so much to be done around the home I just don’t get time to chat. Also I have been working on step one of the 2011 ‘plan’ and have be getting organised, very cathartic!

Hit the ground running…or just hit the ground

Oh wow! I’m back from holiday’s and how!

After braving torrential rains all the way back home from Bendigo (worrying that we might be forced back due to flooding) it is straight back into work. First day back I come out to find someone has broken the side mirror off my car, the storms have taken down four branches of a cedar tree next to our house destroying my nectarine tree and damaging our fence and that my son’s Youth Allowance has been cut off (even though I gave all our Tax info to the powers that be, since then I have had to go into Centrelink everyday this week with more copies of the same forms, can I scream now) which is just great seeing as we have just moved him to out of home to Bendigo to go to school!
‘Breath just breath……’

Ok, venting over now, I’m determined not to let anyone or anything rain on my parade. Finances may be slim, life is full of disappointment and trial and frustration may be mounting but I am determined that all things are working for good. YEAH, TAKE THAT STUPID ANNOYING STUFF THAT HAPPENS IN MY LIFE!

While I was on holiday I did the above  sketch and this is what my focus is on today, this and following the advice of Helen Aldous at Artonomy. She has suggested a ‘To Do’ list for improving your outcomes for self promotion as an artist, and they are very practical and doable.

So I’m, gunna stop whinging and start doing.
