Easter Faves

After spending an afternoon with my best friends three little girls making Easter Bonnets for the hat parade at school I’m in full Easter swing. When the kids finish school this week I think we will have a lot of fun with some of these projects!

Gossip Girls and an Easter Theme

Feeling the Easter feeling in the air, bunnys, chicks and chocolate are filling the shelves at the shops, the evenings and mornings are chilly there is an Autumnal smokiness and pleasant slow down toward winter.

Here is a theme I am currently working on for a potential Pre Easter stall ‘The Gossip Girls’ they are all a flutter with the latest gossip in the hen house.

A Drawn Out Experiment

This is a challenge an experiment for myself to see if I can find the joy of drawing again just for drawing.

Drawing without thinking about who sees it, no censorship, warts and all, free and easy to make mistakes, appreciate the everyday stuff, draw what I see, things not normally drawn, just doing it, quickly, forget the rules, have fun, black pen on anything I can find, without  editing….do it everyday for a month starting today!

My Day….dogs and preserves

Tilly meets Lawson

The past week has been taken up with our new addition to the family, I introduce to you ‘Lawson’ puppy extraordinaire! This super cute little bundle of mischief has kept me busy toilet training and supervising play dates with our amazingly gentle giant (compared to tiny puppy) Tilly dog, they are firm friends and get quite upset when I separate them.

The other main event of the week-end has been picking lovely Autumn fruit like golden delicious apples, peaches, Nashi and Packham Pears which I have turned into Peach and Ginger Citrus Jam and Apple Cinnamon Sauce and Nashi Pear and Walnut Muffins!

Nashi pear and walnut muffins

I have plans for trying a Nashi Pear chutney and some Ginger Wine Poached Pears YUM!

I found a great source of pear recipe inspiration over at the Australian Nashi Growers Association this is the recipe for the muffins…

Wholemeal Walnut and Nashi Muffins

2 1/2 cups wholemeal
self-raising flour
1/2 cup castor sugar
135g butter, melted
1 egg
2 cups buttermilk
2 nashi, peeled and chopped
1/2 cup chopped walnuts

Mix together the flour and sugar and stir in the butter, egg
and buttermilk. Add the nashi and nuts and mix lightly, until
just combined.
Put the mixture in greased muffin pans and bake in a pre-heated 200C oven for 20 minutes.
